Plan Drawing
The Madison County Government Center was redesigned to create a sense of place and to be more inviting to visitors. The existing site had a concrete jungle feeling, so the goal was to bring back natural elements to the site and create a more desirable exterior space with flexible space for events. This design locates the Madison County Christmas Tree in a permanent location that can be enjoyed for many years to come. The other highlight design feature of this project is the custom "MC" style railing that now provides character to the site while paying homage to the original character of the historic site.
Rendering
This perspective shows the Madison County Government Center from the corner of 9th and Meridian St. The Madison County Christmas Tree now has a permanent location and also provides a seat for those waiting on a ride. The seat wall is also meant to provide families seating for photograph opportunities around Christmas time when the lights are installed. The terrazzo river pattern in the pavement is meant to represent the nearby White River, bring a natural element back to the site, and provide an interactive and wayfinding walking experience to the site. The benches have been softened with a natural element (wood) and some vibrant colors to make the otherwise stark concrete atmosphere more inviting.
Details
This drawing package was used to communicate design intent to the builders and was used to achieve exactly what was designed. These detail drawings gave the contractor (metal fabricator) everything they needed to build the railing system without question. The image below illustrates the accuracy and the quality of elements that can be achieved by a good drawing set in combination with a good builder.
